Women and Modesty Global Initiative was
borne out of the need to conserve female folks and preserve the most cherished
African Culture. The NGO advocates decent and enviable lifestyle among African
women. It focuses on the celebration of a virtuous woman and emphasises on
dress- sense, conduct, carriage, civility, decorum, courtesy and the role of
motherhood in the life of an African child.
By extension, the NGO caters for the
wellbeing of an African woman/child by fighting against domestic violence,
female mutilation and other vices that could impede the happiness of the
African woman. Women constitute the building blocks for family values and
catalyst for the progress of any society, thus, their rights should not be
abused.
Towards
carrying out the above objective, other programs have been designed which will
follow shortly after the unveiling. These are:
·
Courtesy visit to all Governor’s wives- This campaign is a collective effort
by everyone to make the country a better place, thus, it is only natural that
women in authority should join to promote this noble cause. It is a social
demand on all Governors’ wives to participate in this project and promote
decent lifestyle among women in their respective regions.
·
Celebration of Womanhood:
This is an event packaged to celebrate women of decent lifestyles. The
program will portray various drama and musical representations on the theme “Modesty
and Decency in the African Woman”. Also, awards will be given out to some
deserving individuals /role models of decent dressing in Nigeria.
·
Miss Modesty Pageant- The pageantry is designed to showcase
the pride of the African woman by revealing how the African woman can look
beautiful in pageants without protruding her private areas. The pageant will
feature beautiful models in modestly designed African prints and attires.
Hitherto, the NGO has contributed immeasurably to the
society with its charity works. Some orphanage homes have been visited and food
items given out, likewise the Old people’s homes. Also, schools have been
visited and gifts such as writing materials and sanitary pads were given out.
There have also been numerous counselling on sex education and parental
guidance.
The NGO is founded by Ambassador Emelda Osuji, popularly
known as “Madam Modesty”, a public
servant, society woman and philanthropist.
She hails from Anambra State and happily married to Mr Charles Osuji.
This reputable non-profit making organisation is proudly
endorsed by the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and the Cooperate Affairs
Commission, CAC.
